New Glass: The total energy consumed in processing, including transportation, is approximately 14.5 x 106th Btu. per ton of containers delivered. (That is 14.5 million BTU's per ton of new glass)
The life-cycle energy requirement for a refillable bottle used 50 times is estimated to be about 6% of that for a single-use bottle. The water requirement is about 20% of that for a single-use bottle.
